Chatbucket is built on a privacy-by-design framework. We limit the collection of personal data to what is strictly necessary, retail only essential information required for core functionality, and safeguard all communications through end-to-end encryption.

Data Minimization Principle

  • We do not store your messages, calls, or personal media.
  • We cannot read or access your encrypted communications.
  • We only retain essential accounts and technical information needed to provide the service.
  • All personal communications remain fully encrypted and inaccessible to Chatbucket.

Information We Collect

Chatbucket collects and processes only the data necessary to provide and improve our services. This information falls into two categories: Essential Data and Non-Stored Data.

Essential Data

Collected and securely stored only as required for core functionality.

  • Account Information: Phone number, email (optional), username, profile picture, bio, and subscription tier.
  • Business Profiles: Company name, business category, catalogue, and scheduled stories.
  • Support Queries: Contact form entries, bug reports, and feedback submissions.
  • Device & Technical Data: Device ID, operating system, app version, IP address, network connectivity status, language, and accessibility settings.
  • Usage Data: Logs of interactions such as call durations, scheduling activity, and live stream attendance (but not message or call content).

Non-Stored Data

Processed in real time to deliver features but never retained on our servers.

  • Messages & Calls: All content is end-to-end encrypted. We cannot access or store it.
  • Voice Data: Temporarily processed for AI-powered translation or cloning and then discarded.
  • Location Data: Used locally for Nearby, Weather, and time zone features; not stored.
  • Biometric or Avatar Data: If used for AR filters or personalization, processed on-device whenever possible.
  • Cookies & Tracking Technologies: Limited to session management, analytics, and app performance monitoring; no third-party advertising trackers.

Legal Basis for Processing

We process your data based on:

  • Consent: For features like translation, voice cloning, and “Nearby” features.
  • Contractual Necessity: To provide Chatbucket services.
  • Legitimate Interest: Platform security, spam detection.
  • Legal Obligations: Responding to law enforcement or compliance mandates.

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and improve our messaging, calling, and translation services.
  • To personalize user experience using AI models (e.g., smart replies, translation preferences).
  • To enable features like scheduling, Nearby interaction, Stories, and virtual gifting.
  • To moderate content and enforce platform guidelines (spam detection, abuse prevention).
  • To send reminders, notifications, and updates.
  • To process transactions (e.g., Nearby interactions, donations).
  • To provide customer support and debug issues.

Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell your personal data. We may share your information:

  • a) With Other Users: As intended by platform features (e.g., messages, stories, profile info).
  • b) With Service Providers: Cloud storage, analytics, email providers under strict confidentiality agreements.
  • c) For Legal Compliance: To respond to lawful requests, protect users, and ensure platform integrity.
  • d) With Admins: Group or channel admins may view or manage certain data (e.g., scheduled meetings, podcast data).
  • e) AI Processing with Privacy:
    1. Voice Translation: Processed locally or via anonymized encrypted snippets.
    2. Object Detection/ Currency Recognition: Performed on-device.
    3. Model Improvements: Based only on aggregated, anonymized patterns. Never raw personal data.
    4. No personal content is used for training or advertising.

Minimal Data Retention

  • Messages & Calls: Never stored.
  • Essential Account Data: Retailed only while your account is active.
  • Technical Logs: Stored for up to 30 days for troubleshooting.
  • User Content (e.g., Stories, Posts, Media): Retained only per user settings, then permanently deleted.
  • Accessibility Preferences: Stores locally on device.

In accordance with applicable privacy laws, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (India), you have the following rights:

  • Right to Access: Right to Access: Request confirmation whether your personal data is being processed and access the same.
  • Right to Correction: Request correction or updating of inaccurate or outdated personal information.
  • Right to Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data if no longer necessary or if consent is withdrawn.
  • Right to Grievance Redressal: Lodge complaints against data misuse or non-compliance.
  • Right to Consent Management: You can withdraw or manage consent at any time via in-app settings or our data portal.

End-to-End Encryption Guarantee

  • All messages, calls, and shared media are end-to-end encrypted.
  • Encryption keys are generated and stored only on user devices.
  • Chatbucket cannot decrypt or access communications.
  • Local AI features (translation, detection, recognition) process data on-device whenever possible.
  • Any server-side AI uses encrypted, anonymized inputs only.

Data Security

  • Encryption at Rest: All essential account and technical data we store (e.g., login ingo, device compatibility logs), is encrypted using industry-standard protocols.
  • Access Controls: Only authorized personnel with a strict need-to-know can access limited system data, under confidentiality obligations.
  • Authentication & Account Protection: Two-factor authentication is available for users. Admin controls help manage group, meeting, and community settings.
  • System Safeguards: Firewalls, intrusion detection, and regular vulnerability testing protect against unauthorized access.
  • Incident Response: In the unlikely event of a breach, we have protocols in place for notification and remediation under applicable law.
  • User Responsibility: We encourage users to use strong passwords, manage permissions, and keep apps up to date for maximum protection.

Children’s Privacy

Chatbucket is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If a violation is discovered, we take immediate action.

International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred and stored in countries outside of your own. In such cases, we ensure the receiving country has appropriate data protection safeguards or contractual clauses in line with the Indian DPDP Act.

AI & Machine Learning Use

We use AI models for real-time translation, voice synthesis and cloning, auto-captioning, speech-to-text, and personalized suggestions. Here is where feasible data is processed on-device or anonymized before model training. You can opt out of non-essential AI personalization settings.

Jurisdiction-Specific Disclosures

India – Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023

Data Fiduciary: Chatbucket acts as the Data Fiduciary under the DPDP Act.

  • Consent: Your personal data is collected and processed based on explicit and informed consent, which you provide at the time of app installation and feature usage (e.g., translation, location sharing, call recording).

We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. Major changes will be notified via the app or email. Continued use of Chatbucket means you accept these damages.
